Wesleyan baseball picked fifth in South Division in MEC preseason poll

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan baseball has been voted to finish fifth in the MEC South Division, the conference announced Thursday afternoon. The Bobcats totaled 22 points in the poll.

Defending South Division and MEC Tournament champion University of Charleston is picked to repeat as Division Champions, racking up 65 total points and 10 first-place votes. Concord follows the Golden Eagles with 49 points and one first-place vote. West Virginia State comes in third with 46 points, MEC Tournament runner-up Glenville State slides in behind WVSU with 44 points and one first-place vote, Wesleyan (22), and Davis & Elkins (20) close out the South side.

Frostburg State was picked to repeat as North Division champions with 63 points and eight first-place votes. Fairmont State is slated to finish second, totaling 54 points and two first-place votes. Wheeling trails Fairmont State with 40 points, Notre Dame follows with 39 points and one first-place vote, West Liberty got 34 points and one first-place vote, and Alderson Broaddus (19) rounded out the North side.

Wesleyan finished the 2022 season (3-40) overall and (3-29) in conference play. The Bobcats picked up wins over Alderson Broaddus, Charleston and West Virginia State.

WVWC begins play on Saturday, February 25, at Penn State Greater Allegheny in Butler, Pa. in a doubleheader. The Bobcats home opener will be Saturday, March 18, against Alderson Broaddus at Hank Ellis Field.
