Wesleyan baseball drops two games to Fairmont State

FAIRMONT — The West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats battled against the Fairmont State Fighting Falcons in a doubleheader this past Saturday. The Bobcats were unable to take at least one from Fairmont State as they dropped both games (5-1 and 5-4) and moved to 4-6 in conference play and 9-15 overall.

Game one was a quiet one for the Bobcats as they were only able to come up with one run off three hits thanks to a Cole Shearer solo homerun. The other two hits were singles that came from Grant Shumaker and Josh Ayala.

The Fighting Falcons scored five runs off nine hits and had two players with multi-hit games. Cameron Moore went 2-3 with a double and an RBI, and Ryan Goff went 2-4 with an RBI.

Broderick Rohrbaugh got the loss for Wesleyan and moved to 3-3 on the season. Zane Loveday achieved his first win of the season for Fairmont State.

Game two was a thriller as Fairmont State was able to steal the win from the Bobcats off a walk off in extra innings.

Wesleyan answered first in the top of the third by scoring three to take a 3-0 lead. Jack Tilton hit an RBI double to score Malik Wood, Eddie Rueda hit a sacrifice fly to score Ryan Drag, and Tilton scored on a pass ball.

The Fighting Falcons were quick to answer in the bottom of the third by scoring three runs to tie it at 3-3.

Fairmont State secured the lead in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single from Quintin Smith to score Zach Brennan and make it 4-3.

In their last chance, the Bobcats were able to tie the game in the top of the seventh thanks to a pass ball to score Wood and make it 4-4.

With many chances with runners in scoring position, Wesleyan was unable to score a run and lost in the bottom of the ninth 5-4 due to a throwing error.
