Water line repair on Smithfield Street at Central Avenue underway

Monday, June 7, 2021, BUCKHANNON, WV: The City of Buckhannon Water Department has a crew onsite on Smithfield Street at Central Avenue, repairing a water line break. The crew should have the repair complete early this afternoon barring any additional unforeseen problems with the line.

“This is one of the old cast iron main lines that we have great concern with,” stated Water Department Superintendent, Kelly Arnold. “These old lines run throughout the city, and we are continually monitoring them, and unfortunately repairing them.” This break is isolated and there is no cause for water quality concerns.

Mayor Robbie Skinner, along with the Water Board and the City Council, continues to address the aging infrastructure issues within Buckhannon and prioritize those projects that funding can be allocated towards.
