Wamsley wins title at fireman’s rodeo

Upshur Co. Fire Fighter Dion Wamsley took home the title in Webster. Dion entered the annual West Virginia State Championship Fireman’s Rodeo Friday 5/25/2018 night at Webster Springs. The rodeo is a simulation of events that fireman do when called upon. The fireman is in full PPE (Turn out)fire gear and with a air pack (SCBA) on his back breathing air while running the course. The fireman runs though a confined space structure then uses a sledge hammer to drive a metal wedge to simulate cutting a ventilation holes in a roof. He then drags a 1-3/4 fully charged fire hose to knock down a cone. Finally he drags rescue Randy to the finish line. Dion is a member of the Buckhannon Fire Department & the Ellamore Fire Department. Dion took first place in the 40 & older class this year. This is his 10th year competing in the 40 & over class. He has won 8 titles in those 10 years.
