WHEELING, W.Va. — Lexis Tatum posted her second double-double of the season, as the West Virginia Wesleyan (3-17, 3-8) volleyball team fell 3-0 at Wheeling (19-5, 10-1) on Friday at the Alma Grace McDonough Center.
WVWC Leaders
Tatum was the leader in kills (10), digs (10), and points (11.5) for the Bobcats. Payton Hefner dished out 17 assists. Kennedy Kuhns added a service ace. Michela Ayers and Joelle Lalla each contributed three total blocks.
Wheeling Leaders
Three Cardinals racked up seven kills: Lexi Reinert, Raegan Rosi and Mady Winters. Setter Karly Niesen distributed 33 assists and collected two service aces. Audrey Francis totaled 22 digs. Niesen and Lexi Smith both led the Cardinals with three total blocks.
Inside Set One
WVWC jumped out to a 3-1 lead. Ayers and Anaya Hyman notched kills on the 3-0 run. The Cardinals trailed 4-2 when they sparked a 5-0 run to regain the lead, 7-4. The Lady Bobcats cut the lead to two points following a block solo from Ayers.
Wheeling scored three consecutive points to claim a 15-10 lead. Wesleyan trimmed the Wheeling lead down to three points at 17-14. The Cardinals responded and took the next four points to increase their lead to seven. The home team was victorious in set one, 25-18.
Inside Set Two
With the Lady Bobcats trailing by four points, Wheeling ripped off five consecutive points to increase their lead to 19-10. The Lady Bobcats fought back and trimmed the lead down to five points at 23-18 after a kill from Tatum and Lalla. Set two went to the Cardinals, 25-18.
Inside Set Three
Wheeling took the first six points of the third frame. The Cardinals did not trail the entire set and won set three, 25-9.
