Upshur Youth Soccer cancels fall 2020 season

BUCKHANNON — The Upshur County Youth Soccer Board of Directors announced Wednesday it has canceled the 2020 fall season. Details regarding refunds from fees rolled over from the spring to fall season will be announced next week.

In a statement on its Facebook page that was also sent to media outlets, UCYS shared the following statement:

“The board of directors of Upshur County Youth Soccer have met in executive session the past two weeks to discuss whether to move forward with a fall season.

“Our board met with members of the Upshur County Health Department, the City of Buckhannon, West Virginia Soccer Association and the Upshur County Commission. Our goal as a league has always been to provide a quality soccer experience for our players, coaches, and parents. The health, safety and welfare of our players and coaches is always the top priority for us as a board.

“After much thought and consideration, we cannot in good conscience allow a fall season in 2020 for our league. With the restrictions in place to be compliant, the quality of the season would not be worth the risk to our members.

“This decision was not made lightly and every effort was made to move forward but ultimately it’s just not something we can do comfortably or safely. We have made this decision early so you may make other plans for the fall if other sports do have a season.

“Information will be provided next week on refund policies if you carried your spring fees over to the fall season. We thank everyone who has stayed with us and everyone who has provided input throughout this process. We look forward to being on the field spring 2021.”

Sincerely,

Upshur County Youth Soccer Board
