Upshur Parish House receives tax credits through the WV Neighborhood Investment Program

BUCKHANNON — The Upshur Parish House has been awarded $23,000 in tax credits through the West Virginia Neighborhood Investment Program (NIP) for the upcoming year.

This program allows us to offer significant tax incentives to our donors, making your charitable contributions go even further.

By donating through the NIP, you can receive up to 50% of your contribution back in the form of West Virginia state tax credits. For example, a $1,000 donation could yield $500 in tax credits, while a $500 donation could result in $250 in credits. This is an excellent opportunity to maximize the impact of your giving while also benefiting from a substantial reduction in your state tax liability.

“We’re really excited about this opportunity through NIP,” stated Isaac Casto, Executive Director of the Parish House. “Not only does it provide crucial funding for several of our programs, it also rewards the donor by cutting their tax bill. It truly feels like a win for everyone involved.”

The funds raised through the NIP program directly support the ongoing efforts of the Parish House to provide essential services to the community. This year’s funding will be earmarked for holiday meals (Easter, Thanksgiving, & Christmas), “break bags” for Upshur County students (during holiday & summer breaks), back-to-school backpacks, and monthly cleaning supplies.

This marks the sixth consecutive year the Upshur Parish House has received NIP tax credits. The Parish House is grateful for the continued support of local donors, which helps to ensure its ability to serve the needs of residents throughout Upshur County.

“NIP has been transformative for the Parish House,” Casto continued. “It’s given us the opportunity to grow and start programs to address new needs in Upshur County, many of which have become regular offerings. Things like dairy vouchers and medical gas cards were started in part by funds raised through NIP.”

NIP was created by the West Virginia Legislature in 1996 to encourage charitable giving to local, community-based nonprofits. Each year, the program allocates $3 million in tax credits to qualifying organizations that address a variety of needs, including food insecurity, healthcare, education, housing, and emergency assistance.

NIP requires nonprofit organizations to submit an application to the West Virginia Development
Office, then be evaluated on a number of criteria and ultimately be approved by an advisory board.

To learn more about how to participate in the NIP program, reserve credits, or make a donation, contact Isaac Casto at the Upshur Parish House at 304-472-0743, office@parishhouse.org, or visit 68 College Avenue, Buckhannon, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
