Upshur Parish House announces dates for annual back-to-school backpack program

The Upshur County Parish House will distribute free backpacks with school and hygiene supplies to all local students at two locations in August, with a new partnership ensuring Head Start students receive backpacks during orientation.

The Upshur County Parish House is excited to announce pickup dates for its annual Back-to-School Backpack Program, which provides local students with free backpacks filled with essential school and hygiene supplies. The program is open to all students in Upshur County, helping ensure every child has the tools they need to start the school year.

Backpacks will be available at two locations:

  • Buckhannon Location (68 College Ave, Buckhannon, WV)
    • Monday, August 11: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM & 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM
    • Tuesday, August 12: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
    • Wednesday, August 13: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
  • Rock Cave Location (4 Church St, Rock Cave, WV)
    • Wednesday, August 13: 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM

New this year, the Parish House is partnering with Upshur County Head Start to provide backpacks directly to every Head Start student. These backpacks will be distributed during Head Start Orientation, so families with enrolled children do not need to attend a pickup at the Parish House.

“We’re proud to continue this tradition of support for Upshur County families,” said Caroline Fulks, Parish House Assistant Director. “Thanks to generous community donations and volunteers, we’re helping hundreds of students walk into the new year confident and prepared.”

For more information about the program or how to support it, please contact the Upshur Parish House at 304-472-0743 or follow their Facebook page, “Upshur Cooperative Parish: Parish House and Crosslines Inc.”
