Upshur, Lewis, Webster and Harrison counties all report COVID-19 deaths Thursday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Thursday that 355 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Eleven additional deaths were reported, including individuals in Upshur, Lewis, Webster and Harrison counties.

“We are deeply saddened to report the deaths of more West Virginians due to COVID-19,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary. “We extend our deepest sympathies to these families.”

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (8), Barbour (1) and Lewis (4) counties. A total of 123 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

The deaths announced Thursday included an 81-year old female from Upshur County, a 72-year old female from Lewis County, a 93-year old male from Webster County, a 101-year old female from Harrison County, a 70-year old male from Harrison County, a 91-year old female from Wood County, a 68-year old male from Kanawha County, an 84-year old female from Wood County, a 67-year old female from Taylor County, an 87-year old female from Wood County, and an 83-year old female from Berkeley County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of February 18, 2021, there have been 2,090,402 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 128,760 total cases and 2,236 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 10,088 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 116,436 people have recovered and 2,236 have died. The daily percent positive was 3.38%.

A total of 149,889 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
