Upshur drops to orange on daily map with no new COVID-19 cases reported Monday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 114 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

For the first time in more than a week, Upshur County reported no new cases despite seeing a huge daily surge of 350 test results, likely from Friday’s free testing.

The surge in testing helped lower Upshur County’s daily map color to orange — and nearly to gold — despite the fact that Upshur still has the third highest infection rate in the state, behind Barbour and Tucker counties.

A total of 53 cases remain active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Statewide, three additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 53-year old female from Kanawha County, an 86-year old female from Kanawha County, and a 70-year old female from Putnam County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m., October 5, 2020, there have been 596,040 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 16,742 total cases and 361 deaths,” according to a press release.

About 4,330 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 12,051 people have recovered and 361 have died. The daily percent positive was 1.52%.
