Upshur County Relay for Life to host new event, a quarter auction, on Feb. 9

Bring your quarters and dollars for Upshur County Relay for Life’s first quarter action. The event will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9, at The Outpost and Event Center in Buckhannon.

A quarter auction is a fun way to win fantastic prizes. Similar to bingo but different, this auction requires participants to purchase bidding paddles for $10. Items up for bid will have a note stating that the starting bid will range from a quarter to $3.

As the auctioneer calls the items, raise your paddle to bid on a particular one. Place your bid money in a container on the table. Then, numbers are drawn to determine who will win the prize.

There will be door prizes, a Chinese auction and a 50/50 raffle.

All proceeds will go to Upshur County Relay for Life, which supports the American Cancer Society (ACS). Relay fundraisers support cancer research for a cure and programs that help cancer patients. Those wishing to purchase snacks may visit The Daily Grind counter. Doors to the quarter auction open at 1 p.m., so come early to socialize.

This year’s Upshur County Relay for Life will occur on July 19 in Jawbone Park.
