BUCKHANNON – The Upshur County Historical Society recently opened the doors to the History Center Museum, marking the launch of their Summer 2023 Exhibit.

From the Ice Age to the Modern Age: Revisited, A Chronological Timeline of Upshur County History is a public display of Upshur County historical artifacts, documents and photography. Visitors can receive a chronological, historical depiction of life in Upshur County as early as the end of the Ice Age.

Guests are encouraged to experience this one-of-a-kind exhibit at the History Center Museum located at 81 West Main Street in Buckhannon. This year’s exhibit opened their doors last Sunday, June 4 and will be open to visitors Sunday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m. until the exhibit’s conclusion on Sunday, September 24. This exhibit is free to enjoy for history buffs of all ages.

Last year’s exhibit possessed a similar theme, however, the UCHS has acquired an abundance of additional artifacts that has since been added to the collection. Local families, history enthusiasts, and collectors have been kind enough to donate materials to this exhibit over time.

A visit to the museum offers a showcase of the Ice Age’s impact on local waterways that we recognize today, Civil War artifacts, farming techniques and equipment, local business materials, paintings by Upshur County natives, period clothing, the official land deed of Buckhannon, historical photography, and so much more.

Donations to the Historical Society and its Summer Exhibit are not expected but are greatly appreciated as they wish to continue using this space for local, historic preservation for many years to come. Reading materials, such as the Upshur County Historical Society Newsletter and Journal, are available for purchase within the museum.
