Trick-or-treat in Buckhannon set for Halloween night, other upcoming events approved

Buckhannon officials set city trick-or-treat for Oct. 31 from 6–7:30 p.m., and the Consolidated Public Works Board approved upcoming events including parades, a suicide prevention walk, recruitment drive, Trunk-or-Treat and holiday festivities.

The City of Buckhannon scheduled trick-or-treat in the city limits for Oct. 31 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Consolidated Public Works Board set the date and time during their Sept. 25 meeting. Mayor Robbie Skinner said he received numerous calls and messages asking about the date and time for trick-or-treating this year.

“This question that has been in my text messages, my inbox, the City of Buckhannon message board and phone calls, is, ‘When is trick-or-treat?’ This year, with the 31st being a Friday, I think it’s a no-brainer,” Skinner said. “I’ve had people ask, ‘Can we have it Saturday?’ ‘Can we have it Thursday?’ ‘Well, I really want it on Friday.’ ‘I don’t want it on Friday.’ ‘I want it Saturday.’ ‘Could we have it the weekend before?’”

Skinner said in the end that he thought it made sense to have trick-or-treating on Halloween.

“I know there is a football game, I know people have things going on Friday night, but I think you would not want to have it on a school night, and then that gives you the rest of the weekend,” Skinner said. “Let’s just keep it simple and have it on Friday the 31st. We can’t please everybody.”

In other Consolidated Public Works Board news, the board approved an array of events, including:

  • Suicide Prevention Walk — WVWC Center for Community Engagement — Oct. 3, 2025, at the Walk Trail.
  • Upshur 4-H Fair Recruitment Drive — Oct. 5, 2025, at Jawbone Park, Noon to 4 p.m.
