Track Bucs dominate in 2022 debut in home meet

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur track and field Buccaneers dominated in their 2022 debut in a six-team home meet Tuesday evening at Freal “Red” Crites Memorial Stadium.

The Bucs piled up 12 wins, getting seven individual victories and five relay wins.

Picking up the individual wins were Taiwo Thropp in the 100-meter dash (11.47), Shawn Blandino in the 200-meter dash (23.24), Sterlin Thropp in the 400-meter run (51.68), Jordan Gillum in the 800-meter run (2:04.69), Landon Zirkle in the pole vault (8-00), Savion Farmer in the long jump (19-00.50) and Dalton Crites in the shot put (42-10).

The Bucs swept all five relay events as Zach Mayle, Sterlin Thropp, Farmer and Taiwo Thropp won the 4×100 meter relay (46.63), Blandino, Devin Phillips, Dirk Riley and Camden Snyder won the 4×200 meter (1:39.11), Blandino, Gillum, Julien Larcher and Sterlin Thropp took the 4×400 meter relay (3:36.49), Larcher, Jack Waggy, Gillum and Reis Leonard winning the 4×800 meter relay and Chase Hackett, Leonard, Zade Woody and Carter Zuliani winning the 4×110 meter shuttle hurdle relay (1:09.26).

The Bucs claimed six second places with Waggy taking second in the 1600 meter run (4:57.97), Leonard in the 3200-meter run (10:51.62), Zuliani in the 110-meter hurdles (17.89), Hackett in the 300-meter hurdles (45.99), Owen Cutright in the high jump (5-02) and Riley in the discus throw (120-03).

Earning thirds for Buckhannon-Upshur were Camden Snyder in the long jump (18-05) and Zuliani in the discus throw (111-11).

The Bucs easily won the team title with 192 points while Webster County was a distant second with 101.50 points. Fairmont Senior took third with 81 points.

Buckhannon-Upshur will run again Friday in the Doddridge County Opener.
