MORGANTOWN, W.Va.– The West Virginia Wesleyan track & field team wrapped up a two-day event at West Virginia University, where they participated in the Mountaineer Showcase on Friday and Saturday.
Maggie Kovalcik and Samantha Cash kicked off the Friday session with a strong showing in the long jump. Kovalcik and Cash finished first and second in the event leaping 5.36 and 5.34m, respectively. Aubrey Wiethe took fifth place in the 100m hurdle finals crossing the line in 15.75.
After breaking two school records a week ago, Ny’Tierra Hobbs continued her impressive stretch as she took second place in the 100m finals. Hobbs beat teammate Faith Gandy to the line with a time of 11.92, while Gandy finished in 12.09. Kovalcik took fifth in the event with a time of 12.59.
Leigha Hall took second in the 3000m steeplechase, posting a time of 12:21.87.
Kennedy Kuhns opened up the Saturday session with a victory in the Javelin throw. Kuhns mark of 36.05m on her second throw secured the event win. Cash took second place in the high jump as she cleared the bar at 1.64m.
Kovalcik won the 400m dash as she crossed the finish line in 59.62 to take the event. The relay team of Kovalcik, Hobbs, Gandy and Shannon Farrow took first place in the 4x100m relay. The team finished in 47.44.
Wiethe won the 400m hurdles edging out her opponent with a time of 1:07.05. Hobbs took second in the 200m dash finals posting a time of 25.10.
Cade Robinson took second in the men’s 1500m run posting a time of 4:07.14. Aaron Kupfner took third in the 110m hurdle finals with a finishing time of 15.34. Tanner Faulkiner won the 100m dash finals as he posted another strong time after breaking the school record the previous week. Faulkiners time of 10.62 beat all of his opponents by two-tenths of a second in the event.
Kenneth Okoye’s jump of 1.88m gave him third in the high jump. Justin Mcintyre won the 400m dash with a time of 49.59.
Evan Pyles took third in the 5000m run finishing the race in 16:33.12. Robinson and Cole Bracken took fourth and fifth in the 800m run with times of 1:59.54 and 1:59.75.
Devin Taylor took fourth in the 200m dash finals and crossed the line in 22.36.
