BUCKHANNON – My Buckhannon is proud to present another edition of the Hank Ellis All-Stars. Each week, we will select a female and male athlete at Buckhannon-Upshur who has had an exemplary week on the basketball court, the wrestling mat, or the swimming pool.

Our Hank Ellis All-Stars for the week of Feb. 26 – March 3 are Liam Garcia and Maya Garcia.

Liam and Maya became the first brother-sister combo to win West Virginia State Wrestling Championships in the same year.

Liam, a senior on the wrestling team, won the 120-pound weight division. He went a perfect 4-0 claiming the title, including winning a 7-3 decision over Washington’s Kai Plinski in the title match.

Maya, a sophomore on the wrestling team, won the championship in the 132-pound girls division. She went 4-0 as well, pinning Washington’s Jurnee Vrobel in the title match.
