This Weekend: Local businesses team up to create one-stop shops with tux rentals and flower arrangements for prom

Local businesses join forces this weekend to offer Buckhannon-Upshur High School prom-goers a one-stop shop for tux and suit measurements, rentals, matching flower arrangements, and community donations.

With Buckhannon-Upshur High School’s prom coming up soon, Mountain Boutique, Haberdashery and Salon is collaborating with two local florists to offer flowers and suit-and-tuxedo rentals all in one place this weekend.

Becki Westfall, the owner of Mountain Boutique, Haberdashery and Salon, said her business is working with Country Blooms and Blooms by Juliette on Saturday and Sunday, April 12-13, to make it easier to match suits, flowers and dresses for prom.

“We will have people on location to get your measurements for your tuxes while you’re picking out your flowers at Country Blooms,” Westfall said. “Or we will have Blooms by Juliette’s portfolio here [at Mountain Boutique] on Saturday and Sunday for you to come in and get your measurements for your tux. You can also bring your dress in to make sure your matching colors are exact.”

The event will run Saturday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Westfall invited B-U, Lewis County or other area students to stop by and get everything they need for prom in one location.

Country Blooms is located at 9 Madison Street in Buckhannon, while Westfall’s salon, which was previously known as Just Cuttin’ Up, recently moved to 25 West Main Street, the former location of Mountain Chic Boutique.

“We have hundreds of colors to choose from for tuxes and suits, and we have two local florists that are simply amazing who can match the colors of your dress and suit,” Westfall said. “But we also want to give back to our community, so for every tux that’s rented for Buckhannon-Upshur High School, the student gets to choose if they would like a donation made to the prom committee or to the after-grad party, and we will donate $10. You don’t have to sell pepperoni rolls, you don’t have to sell cookie dough, you don’t have to do a raffle – we simply write them a check.”

Mountain Boutique is teaming up with Jim’s Formal Wear so customers can come in for measurements, and then the suits or tuxes will be shipped to the store prior to prom.

“We also carry suits if they don’t want a tux,” Westfall said. “There is a wide range of costs – we have a basic tux, up to a Michael Kors. It really depends on your style, but everything is really nice.”

Westfall said the store also offers dress socks and now carries men’s clothing. She said the idea behind the special prom weekend is to get the community together for an easy and enjoyable experience.

“We want to make it memorable, and by teaming up with the other small businesses, we hope to provide something really nice for the community,” she said.

The event is only for this Saturday and Sunday, but customers may request sizing for a suit or tuxedo up to April 19.

“The prom is not only memorable, but it’s really great for the kids,” Westfall said. “The after-graduation party also has so many benefits for students, and as small business owners, we all want to get together and help out. The best way to do that is to do a one-stop shop with our flowers and our tuxes.”
