Tennis Bucs tumble to Lewis County

BUCKHANNON – The Buckhannon-Upshur boys’ tennis team came up short in a home clash with the Lewis County Minutemen Wednesday evening at the West Virginia Wesleyan courts.

The Bucs dropped a 7-0 decision.

No. 3 singles player Bradly Helmick was in a tight battle with Norman Tallhammer trailing just 3-2 before having to bow out with an injury.

The closest contest was Helmick and Taylor Swift and No. 2 doubles falling to Tallhammer and J.W. Garrett, falling by an 8-3 score.

“Despite, the score, I think we competed pretty well,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Rock. “Bradly was playing a great singles match before he had to forfeit (due to a medical issue). I think he would have had a great chance to win that match because he was playing a really good match and being aggressive.”

The loss dropped the Bucs to 0-5 on the year.

Their outing with Liberty on Friday was postponed because of the weather.

They will be back in action Monday hosting University at 4 p.m.

The results:

Singles

No. 1 – Zach Stalnaker (LC) def. Jude Snyder, 8-0

No. 2 – Trenton Bush (LC) def. Matthew Adams, 8-0

No. 3 – Norman Tallhammer (LC) def. Bradly Helmick, won by forfeit

No. 4 – J.W. Garrett (LC) def. Tommy Swift, 8-2

Doubles

No. 1 – Stalnaker and Bush (LC) def. Snyder and Adams, 8-0

No. 2 – Tallhammer and Garrett (LC) def. Helmick and Swift, 8-3

No. 3 – Scott Underwood and Aymeric Grymonpre (LC) def. Cody Trainer and Jacob Ham, 8-0
