Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital selects July Employee of the Month

Michelle Matheny

Michelle Matheny, of Mon Health Primary Care Weston, has been named the July ICARE Employee of the Month at Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Michelle’s nominator wrote, “Michelle is very committed to her job.  She always shows up early and is usually the last to leave.  She stays focused until every task is complete. She is honest and respectful to every person with whom she comes in contact. She is hard-working, consistent, dependable, and loyal. She sets a positive example of how a nurse should be.”

The nominator continued, “Michelle is a wife, a mom of three, works full time and is in school full-time to advance her degree. She makes it all look easy.  She applies everything she learns to her job here. She is always trying to grow and learn. She strives to provide the best patient care possible.  She is a joy to work with and is willing to help anyone in the clinic succeed and meet their goals. She has one of the best positive attitudes and she treats co-workers like family.  Michelle is always going out of her way for others. There are certain vendors who come in just to talk to see her.”

Michelle is pleased with her honor and said, “I strive to make sure that every patient is taken care of 100% and will go out of my way to help them as much as I possibly can.  I want them to have the best experience while at their appointments here. I could not ask for a better group of people with whom to work. Teirra, Dr. Fordyce-Richards and Sarah are amazing ladies and the best family co-workers.”

Michelle is originally from Morgantown.  Her parents are Betty DeWitt and the late Rick DeWitt, from there. She worked at Mon Health Wedgewood Family Practice before transferring to Mon Health Primary Care in Fairmont, and eventually to the Weston office. She received her associate degree for medical assistant from West Virginia Junior College. She is currently in nursing school at Salem University with an anticipated graduation date of December 2023 with an associate of science nursing degree.

She resides in Lost Creek with her husband Jason and three children – Silas, Cadence, and Ethan.  The family also has five cats, two dogs, “never enough chickens” and a pet cow, Clyde.  She enjoys reading, crocheting, and “pretending” to be a photographer. She loves to spend time with her family.  Between work, her schooling, and her children’s extracurricular activities quality time is important.
