Splashers swim shortened meet against Club Mountaineer

TENNERTON – Bad weather forced the Buckhannon Swim Club Splashers and Club Mountaineer dual swim meet last Thursday to be cut short to just 44 events.

The Splashers took 25 of the 44 events held – 15 by the girls and 10 from the boys.

In the youngest group, the Under-6, Hallie Austin won the 25-meter backstroke (59.99) for the girls while Gentry Roy took the 25-meter breaststroke (1:16.03) for the boys.

The U8 crop claimed three wins which belonged to Naomi Hibbs in the 50-meter freestyle (1:19.71) and the foursome of Valerie Long, Austin, Lexcie Roy and Hibbs in the 100-meter freestyle relay (2:59.99) for the girls and Holden Carbera for the boys in the 50-meter freestyle (1:16.21).

The U10 girls picked up four victories as Cora Cottrill won the 50-meter freestyle (37.34) and the 25-meter backstroke (21.54), Hayden Anderson won the 25-meter breaststroke (37.50) and the quartet of Kara Hildreth, Marishka Ware, Anderson and Cottrill won the 100-meter freestyle relay (1;36.77). The U10 boy’s victories belonged to Gareth Shay in the 25-meter backstroke (22.52) and 100-meter freestyle relay unit of Shay, Tucker Cabera, Warren Austin and Kyler Baisden (1:39.85).

The 11-12 year-old age group won two races as the 200-meter freestyle relay team (names not listed on results) won with a time of 3:23.00 and Aubry Shay won the 50-meter backstroke (43.11).

In the 13-14 year-old age group for the girls, Mallory Hughes won the 100-meter freestyle (1:13.23), Sammie Shay won the 50-meter backstroke (42.40) and Shay, Karson Karickhoff, Rylee Yardley and Hughes won the 200-meter freestyle relay (2:29.72). The lone boy’s win was Brody Jeran in the 100-meter IM (1:22.80).

The 15-18 year-old swimmers had the best night with eight victories.

On the girl’s side, Cadence Vincent won the 100-meter freestyle (57.54), the 50-meter backstroke (30.65), Alayna Whitehair won the 100-meter IM (1:14.28) and the foursome of Whitehair, Lillian Fetty, Cate O’Neil and Vincent won the 200-meter freestyle relay (2:08.38). For the boys, Reis Leonard won the 100-meter freestyle (1:08.84), Preston Swift took the 50-meter backstroke (46.72) Preston Bennett won the 100-meter IM (1:06.65) and the foursome of Leonard, Landon Wiant, Carter Zuliani and Bennett won the 200-meter freestyle relay (2:08.38).

The Splashers will be back in the pool Tuesday on the road against the Clarksburg Country Club.
