Softball Lady ‘Cats win three of four to close out Florida swing

WINTER HAVEN (Fla.) — The West Virginia Wesleyan softball Lady ‘Cats wrapped up their spring break games last week winning three of four contests.

Thursday vs. College of Staten Island, W 11-0

The Lady Bobcats dominated the game winning in five innings and not allowing a single run. Kendall Stoffel took the victory on the rubber pitching four innings allowing three hits, no earned runs while collecting four strikeouts. Freshman, Mollie White came in relief to pitch in the fifth allowing no hits or runs. Offensively, the Lady Bobcats roared a 10-run first inning. Andie Dizon started it off with a two-run double scoring Alyssa Rohr and Brooklyn Osburn. Stoffel and Jenna Gomez would both hit one-run singles to make the score 4-0. Maya Reyes doubled to left field scoring two more runs. Osburn hit a one-run single before Andie Dizon came back to the plate to hit a three-run homerun to make it 10-0. Stoffel added a one-run single in the third to make it 11-0.

Thursday vs. Concordia, L 12-1

The Lady Bobcats would get hit around by the Golden Bears. Pitcher, Alexia Scarberry, would pitch 2.1 innings giving up nine earned runs. She would be taken in relief for Gracey Arnold pitching the last two outs of the third inning giving up two hits and one earned run. Kelsi Brown pitched the fourth and fifth inning giving up five hits and two earned runs. Carlee Iannone reached on an error in the fourth to score Brooklyn Osburn which would be the only run to come across. The Golden Bears had a big six-run third inning with many multi-RBI hits.

Friday vs. Wayne State, W 3-1

Wayne State would get on the board first in the second inning with an RBI single to right field. Wesleyan answered in the second inning with a one-run single from Megan McMackin who had a sacrifice ground out to the pitcher. In the fourth, Mollie White hit a one-run single to right center scoring Kendall Stoffel. Emma Jackson would later hit a one-run single to bring Megan McMackin in to score to make it 3-1 after the fourth inning. Stoffel eared the win, taking her record to 3-2 on the season. She pitched seven innings, allowing five hits, one earned run and getting eight strikeouts. She would also go 2-3 at the plate coming around to score twice on the bases.

Friday vs. Bloomfield, W 6-3

Victoria Wehrberger started the game pitching three innings allowing three hits and one earned run. Mollie White came in relief in the fourth giving up two hits and one earned run. Kendall Stoffel came into a 2-2 game in the fifth and collected the win allowing two hits and one earned run and two strikeouts. A tie game going into the fifth inning, Bloomfield College took a 3-2 lead on a RBI ground out to short. The Lady Bobcats answered in the sixth inning with an Andie Dizon two-run single to center field making it 4-3. Kendall Stoffel tripled to right field scoring Dizon later the same inning to make it 5-3 Wesleyan after the sixth inning. Hallie Dinklocker singled to shortstop bringing around Maya Reyes an an error by the first baseman to get an insurance run going into the bottom of the seventh Bloomfield would not score in the bottom of the seventh inning, securing the victory for the Lady Bobcats.

The Lady Bobcats will come home to Buckhannon and host Fairmont State for a double header Saturday, March 16th at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
