Softball Lady ‘Cats pick up two more wins in Florida; gets no-hit by Concordia

WINTER HAVEN (Fla.) — The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats continued their tournament at the Spring Games in Florida on Monday and Tuesday.

Monday vs. Concordia L, 0-9

The Softball team was shutout and didn’t record a hit against the Golden Bears. Josi Fix recorded the loss pitching 1.2 innings giving up four earned runs. Freshman, Molly White pitched 1.1 innings giving up four earned runs as well. Offensively, the Lady Bobcats were retired in order from innings 1-4. The only base runner came in the top of the fifth as Gracey Arnold reached on an error by the pitcher. She later advanced to third on a wild pitch with one out in the inning. The next two batters were retired in the top of the fifth to complete the no-hitter for the Lady Bobcats.

Monday vs. Upper Iowa W, 7-2

After a loss to Concordia University, St. Paul, the Lady Bobcats were looking to finish the day with a win. Victoria Wehrberger took command on the rubber and pitched seven full innings allowing two earned runs and collecting five strikeouts, taking her to 2-0 on the season. Alyssa Rohr and Carlee Iannone lead the way offensively with two RBIs a piece. The Lady Bobcats struck first in the bottom of the third with Andie Dizon singling to left field scoring Hallie Dinklocker. Kendall Stoffel continued the inning hitting an RBI single brining Brooklyn Osburn around to score. Carlee Iannone, in the same inning, doubled to left field collecting two RBIs and making the lead 4-0 after the third inning. In the fourth inning, Alyssa Rohr with two outs, doubled to left field scoring Hallie Dinklocker who singled earlier in the inning. Alyssa Rohr would later collect her second RBI of the day in the sixth, singling to left field.

Tuesday vs. Southwest Minnesota State W, 3-2

On day four of the Spring Games, the Lady Bobcats collected a victory in a close one score ball game. Kendall Stoffel collected her second win on the rubber going seven full innings allowing four hits, two earned runs, and four strikeouts on 100 pitches. Southwest Minnesota State stuck first on a RBI single and and then a run came across on a fielders choice making it 2-0 in the first inning. The Lady Bobcats tied it up in the third with a RBI double from Andie Dizon bringing in Alyssa Rohr. Carlee Iannone would single later in the inning bringing in another run. A tie game into the fifth, Carlee Iannone would single again to score another run making it 3-2. After the fifth inning, Kendall Stoffel would only allow two hits to secure the victory for the Lady Bobcats.

Tuesday vs. Seton Hill L, 3-7

The Lady Bobcats finished 1-1 on day four of the Spring Games. After defeating Southwest Minnesota State, the Lady Bobcats would lose game two to Seton Hill. Victoria Wehrberger collected her first loss pitching 6.2 innings giving up 12 hits and seven earned runs. Wesleyan would jump out to a 3-0 lead after the first four innings. Kendall Stoffel started it off in the first with a sac fly to right field. In the third, Carlee Iannone would RBI single bringing in Brooklyn Osburn. In the fourth, Hallie Dinki collected a sac bunt RBI to score Mollie White. In the fifth, Seton Hill tied the game 3-3 after an RBI on a fielders choice and a two-run single. In the top of the seventh, four runs would come across for Seton Hill to make it 7-3.

Wesleyan had the day off Wednesday and will pick up play Thursday against College of Staten Island and Concordia University, St. Paul.
