Softball Lady ‘Cats fall twice to Fairmont State

BUCKHANNON — The West Virginia Wesleyan softball team opened up their first home game series against Fairmont State University Saturday afternoon. Going into conference play, the Lady Bobcats are looking to carry the momentum from the previous week at the Spring Games, in Florida.

Game 1

Josi Fix took the mound for the Lady Bobcats and pitch 6 2/3 innings allowing seven hits, four earned runs, with seven strikeouts. Fairmont State struck first in the first inning on a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in the first run. Wesleyan would answer in the bottom of the first with a sacrifice fly of their own to score Brooklyn Osburn to tie it up. Carlee Ianonne hit a one-run single later in the inning and scored Alyssa Rohr to make it 2-1 in favor of Wesleyan. In the top of the third, Fairmont State loaded the bases with one out. A two0run single gave Fairmont State a 3-2 lead. The next at bat, another one-run single scored another run to make it 4-2. In the bottom of the fourth, Wesleyan loaded the bases with one away and scored on a Lindsay Dillion RBI ground out from Kelsi Brown. Fairmont State scored an insurance run in the fifth to make it 5-3. The Lady Bobcats were retired in the bottom of the seventh 1-2-3 to end game.

Game 2

Game two was highlighted by a dominate pitching performance by Fairmont State pitcher Delaney Haller. She allowed two hits through seven innings and didn’t give up an earned run. Wesleyan’s Kendall Stoffel took the loss pitching five innings giving up three hits and four earned runs. Fairmont State scored four runs in the top of the third and one more in the sixth inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Andie Dizon singled with one away. Stoffel reached on an error to put runners at first and second with one away. The next two batters for the Lady Bobcats would be retired to finish the game,
