BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Wesleyan (7-7-2, 7-6-1) women’s soccer team took the early lead and never looked back in a 2-0 win over West Liberty (6-7-3, 5-7-3) on Sunday at Ross Field.
Only 46 seconds into the contest, the ball landed outside of the 18-yard box to Danielle Jonas, who ripped a rocket into the top right corner of the net for the early 1-0 advantage.
West Liberty’s first chance came in the 36th minute when Anna Johnston fired a shot that was saved on a dive by Ally Moore. Millie Colbran followed with a shot that clanked off of the top of the crossbar.
Off of a corner kick from Ellie Pergolotti, the ball was deflected to Kameron Bonneau as her shot found the back of the net for a 2-0 halftime edge.
WVWC controlled the game from a defensive standpoint in the second half for its seventh clean sheet of the season.
The Lady Bobcats travel to Wheeling for a mid-meek match at the Cardinals on Wednesday.
