Soccer Lady Bucs to open at home Saturday with Morgantown

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur soccer Lady Bucs will debut Saturday hosting the Morgantown Mohigans at 11 a.m.

First-year head coach Jason Piacente was pleased with how his first preseason went with the Lady Bucs.

“I am extremely proud of them for their work ethic this preseason and how so many of them are setting great examples for the younger players on the team,” said Piacente. “I am happy with the progress the team is making and look forward to continuing that throughout the season.”

Piacente said despite being the third head coach in three years and the third new system the team has had to learn in that time frame, that the team has picked up his way of doing things very quickly.

“They have adapted great, and we are lucky to have such an amazing group of people on this team,” noted Piacente.

In preparation for the season opener, the Lady Bucs scrimmaged Ripley and Philip Barbour during the preseason.

“We tied both games against Ripley and  Philip Barbour, but I was not focused on the scores since they were scrimmages but instead, how we translated things learned in practice to games. I was pleased with the progress we made from one scrimmage to the next.”

Piacente said that the starting line-up was almost set for Saturday’s opener but he didn’t want to give a starting line-up out as a few spots were still being contested for at press time.

“Most of our starters are set but we have a few spots up for grabs at the moment,” stated Piacente.

Piacente knows that his Lady Bucs will be tested in their opener against a good Morgantown team.

“I know they are a great team that will challenge us, and we are looking forward to getting our season started,” concluded Piacente.

Following their season opener, they will be off until next Saturday when they make the trip to Lewisburg playing Greenbrier East at 2 p.m.
