Soccer Lady Bucs drop 2-0 defensive battle with Bridgeport

TENNERTON – In a contest with limited scoring opportunities, the Buckhannon-Upshur soccer Lady Bucs came up short in a 2-0 home loss to the Bridgeport Indians Thursday night in a Big 10 Conference game.

Both teams had just four shots on goal ,but it was the Indians who were able to capitalize on those attempts finding the back of the net twice.

“It was a hard-fought game by both sides for the entire game,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Piacente. “We should be very proud because we played really well as a team with a great performance from our defense.”

It didn’t take long for Bridgeport to get on the scoreboard as Bria Smell scored an unassisted goal from 30 yards out just three minutes in.

The game remained at 1-0 until the 76th minute when Maria Day sealed the win for the Indians when she cleaned up a loose ball in the box from a cross and found the back of the net.

Buckhannon-Upshur trailed in corner kicks by an 8-3 margin while the Lady Bucs were guilty of seven fouls while Bridgeport was called for just one foul.

B-U keeper Harley Dean made two saves while Bridgeport goalie Keira Klingensmith stopped four shots.

Bridgeport improved to 10-2 overall and 8-0 in the Big 10 Conference,

The Lady Bucs dropped to 7-5 overall and 6-2 in conference play.

They will return to the pitch on the road Saturday at Brooke in non-conference play at 11 a.m.
