Soccer ‘Cats tumble in regular-season finale to D&E, 3-0

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Wesleyan (7-7-4, 5-7-4) men’s soccer dropped a result versus Davis & Elkins (14-2, 13-2) on Sunday (Oct. 30) night at Nuttall Field.

In the first half, the Senators came out fast, but that was not enough as the Bobcats had predicted and were able to slow the game down as it progressed. The Bobcats had a few promising chances going forward but were not able to get anything past the Senators’ goalkeeper. It was only until the 43rd minute that the Senators were able to first get on the scoreboard when Soshi Fujioka’s well struck ball was able to beat the goalkeeper and give D&E the lead going into the half, 1-0.

In the second half, the Senators once again came out quick in which they were rewarded with another goal from Kevin Zapata who found himself free in the area and was able to beat the Bobcat defender one on one. Christhian Bosquez sealed it off for the Senators in the 82nd minute when he got on the end of a through ball and put it in the back of the net to give his team a 3-0 lead.

The WVWC Bobcats are on the road on Tuesday (Nov. 1) for a quarterfinal playoff match versus Wheeling. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
