Soccer Bucs get back in the win column with a 4-0 victory over the Colts

PHILIPPI – Noah Radabaugh tallied two goals to help the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers to a much-needed win over the Philip Barbour Colts Thursday night in Big 10 Conference action.

The Bucs returned to the win column after having a week-long break with a 4-0 victory.

“We’ve been anxious to play the past week,” stated Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Mike Donato. “It’s not typical that we have a week between games so we tried to manage rest and practice, to get guys healthy, but we also knew we had a lot of work to do with our new lineup. We did see a lot of good things from those adjustments early on with some great scoring opportunities and smart defending. Our backs did a great job limiting their chances, and getting involved in the attack. We still have several things to work on before we get back into play Tuesday, but we saw some promising things this evening.”

Dirk Riley wasted little time in giving the Bucs the lead, scoring in the first minute of the game when he scored with a shot to the far post after playing a through ball past the midfield from Christian Dowell.

Just eight minutes later, Radabaugh scored his first goal playing a long throw-in from the corner by Caleb Haney.

That 2-0 lead held at the half for the Bucs.

Radabaugh scored his second goal in the 56th minute after playing a pass from Jared Brandish with a shot to the far post through the Philip Barbour’s keeper’s hands to give the Bucs a 3-0 lead.

Brandish wrapped up the B-U scoring in the 59th minute with a free kick 30 yards out.

The Bucs outshot Philip Barbour by an 11-5 margin and led in corner kicks by a 6-1 count. Buckhannon-Upshur was guilty of six fouls while the Colts were called for seven. B-U keeper Dalton Auvil made five saves while Lincoln Crites made one and Caden Fay six for the Colts.

The victory lifted the Bucs to 5-9-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the Big 10 Conference.

The Bucs’ game with Huntington on Saturday has been canceled because of impending bad weather. B-U will return the pitch Tuesday at Bridgeport for a 6 p.m. start.
