Short-handed soccer Lady Bucs fall on the road to Greenbrier East, 2-1

LEWISBURG – A lack of depth hurt the Buckhannon-Upshur soccer Lady Bucs in their 2-1 setback on the road against Greenbrier East in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Bucs made the long trip with just one reserve on a hot and muggy afternoon.

“We had some injuries and sicknesses, so we only had one substitute player,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head soccer coach Jason Piacente. “It was very hot as well, so I feel the team played well considering the circumstances.”

The contest didn’t feature many scoring opportunities for either team as Greenbrier East owned just five shots-on-goal while B-U managed just one.

“We didn’t get to many chances to score so creating more opportunities is something we need to work on,” remarked Piacente.

“All three of the game’s goals were scored in the first half.

The game remained scoreless until the 20th minute when Greenbrier East’s Ryan White scored an unassisted goal from outside the 18.

Kaelyn Long gave the Spartans a 2-0 advantage in the 33rd minute with an unassisted goal.

The Lady Bucs snuck in a goal right before the half when Grace Queen scored an unassisted goal from outside the 18.

In the second half, the Lady Bucs were unable to get a shot-on-goal.

Buckhannon-Upshur did own a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The Lady Bucs were guilty of five fouls while the Spartans were called for three.

B-U keeper Kyndal Davis made three saves,

The loss dropped the Lady Bucs to 0-2 on the year while Greenbrier East improved to 1-3.

Buckhannon-Upshur will be back on the pitch Tuesday with a road trip to Lincoln in their Big 10 opener.
