Shirley Mae Goodwin Perkins Sands

Shirley Mae Goodwin Perkins Sands, age 87, of Buckhannon, died Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at United Hospital Center.

She was born on June 8, 1936, in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Coleman (Tobe) Goodwin and Mary Miller Goodwin. She was united in marriage to Gordon Sands who preceded her in death. In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by four brothers: Gerald, Merle Gene, Jimmie Ray, and Kenny; two sisters Wanda and Wilda; and her first husband James Perkins.

She is survived by four sons: Gary Perkins of Buckhannon, Steve Perkins and wife Donna of Buckhannon, John Perkins and wife Faye of Utah, and Scott Perkins of Elkins; three daughters: Becky Butta and husband Jim of Bridgeport, Judy Bennett and husband Chuck of Moatsville, and Tammie Canterbury and husband Donald of Buckhannon; seven grandchildren: CJ Butta, Jason Bennett and wife Christy, Brock Perkins and wife Sabrina, Felisha Perkins, Michael Perkins and wife Patsy, Matthew Perkins, and Sarah Nesbitt and husband Ernie Marn; several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley enjoyed bowling, going on bus trips, country music, and dancing. She especially loved family get-togethers and cooking for her loved ones.

The body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Bailey Ridge Cemetery for care and upkeep, care of Steve Perkins 669 Bailey Ridge Road Buckhannon, WV 26201.
