Scouting America Mountaineer Area Council names Sarah Fox as Fundraising and Marketing Director

Sarah Fox, a veteran fundraiser with experience in higher education and the military, has been named fundraising and marketing director for the Scouting America Mountaineer Area Council, where she will lead efforts to expand support and visibility.

Scouting America Mountaineer Area Council has hired Sarah Fox as its fundraising and marketing director. Fox brings a wealth of experience, a strong sense of service and a passion for community engagement to the role.

Before joining Mountaineer Area Council, Fox served in fundraising and development roles at private universities in both Ohio and West Virginia, including West Virginia Wesleyan College. In her role with Wittenberg University, she worked with a comprehensive campaign team helped raise more than $100 million. While at West Virginia Wesleyan College, she led a record-breaking giving day campaign.

“What I love about fundraising is the cultivation and growth of relationships with friends that support your organization, as well as those that have an interest in philanthropy, but maybe haven’t been asked for a gift or shown how they can make a meaningful impact. What is universal in nonprofit fundraising is that success depends on being authentically gracious to donors, regardless of the size of their donations, and then being a good steward of those gifts. I’m humbled to be selected and given the opportunity to work with Scouting America, particularly during an exciting period of growth in the Mountaineer Area Council family.”

An Air Force veteran, Fox honorably served as an independent duty medical technician, including tours in South Korea and Iraq. These experiences helped her develop strong leadership and communication skills that have continued to shape her civilian career. Following her military service, she transitioned into the nonprofit sector, amassing more than seven years of experience in fundraising, donor relations and strategic communications.

Fox also is an active member of Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.), Chapter A in Buckhannon, West Virginia. Through this work, she supports educational opportunities for women, further reflecting her dedication to service and community.

“We are thrilled to welcome Sarah to the Mountaineer Area Council,” said Scott Hanson, Scout Executive. “Her military background, professional experience in fundraising and deep commitment to service align perfectly with the values of Scouting. We’re confident she will play a key role in advancing our mission to prepare young people for lives of leadership and purpose.”

Fox, who will be based in Fairmont, will lead efforts to strengthen partnerships, grow community support and increase visibility for the Council’s programs across its recently expanded 22-county service area in northern West Virginia and eastern Ohio.
