BUCKHANNON – The City of Buckhannon has recently received numerous complaints about people setting off fireworks. As a reminder, the release of fireworks within City limits is strictly prohibited by Ordinance No. 418 except for during the following times:
1) Between the hours of 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. on July 4, Independence Day;
2) Between 11 a.m. on Dec. 31 and 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 1;
3) Between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. on the Saturdays preceding and following Independence Day, if Independence Day does not fall on a Saturday in a given year;

and,
4) At such other times, and on such other dates, as the Council may set by Resolution or, only in the event of a spontaneous public celebration where prior approval of the Council is not reasonably possible, by proclamation of the Mayor.
The noise created by the release of fireworks is intrusive to many members of our community, many with medical conditions (PTSD, heightened sensory perception, etc) or with young children trying to sleep. Additionally, many pet owners have animals who are sensitive to firework noise.
Please be respectful of your neighbors and limit firework use to times listed above. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe, peaceful, welcoming community for all.
