TENNERTON — In continuing to bring you the best sports coverage in Upshur County, the My Buckhannon sports department is pleased to bring you another edition of our weekly exclusive — Raising the Jolly Roger With…

In ‘Raising the Jolly Roger With…’ the My Buckhannon sports department will interview a senior student-athlete from Buckhannon-Upshur to get to know them better and what makes them tick both on and off the field. Don’t settle for cheap knockoffs!

Our student-athlete this week is Harrison Walker …enjoy!

2. What has been your favorite athletic moment at Buckhannon-Upshur that you participated in? When all that work paid off after playing limited minutes and never starting in middle school, starting varsity my sophomore year.

3. Describe your toughest practice at Buckhannon-Upshur. What sport and who was the coach? During a cross-country practice my sophomore year, we ran over 11 total miles in the grueling heat.

4. Do you have a favorite saying from one of your head coaches? I love coach Travis Foster’s saying, “Standing Room Only.”

5. What was or is your favorite class you have taken at Buckhannon-Upshur and who taught it? Why was it your favorite? My favorite class was Mr. Epler’s stem class. The things we did were interesting, and Mr. Epler always brought joy to the whole class.

7. If you were asked to play another sport, what would it be and why? If I was asked to play another sport it would be lacrosse. I played it in eighth grade and enjoyed it, even having a hat trick one game.

8. Who is your hero and why? My hero is my dad because he sacrifices a lot for our family.

9. What do you want to be when you grow up? I want to be an architect because I like to design things and interpret those designs in real life.

10. What are your initial plans after graduation this spring? To have as much fun as possible with my friends, while training to play collegiate basketball.

11. What question do you hate to answer? Why weren’t you in first period today?

12. Who is the best athlete in your family?  The best athlete in our family is me and it’s not close, I seem to win every competition we do.

13. Do you have a favorite vacation spot? If so, where? At the beach with my friends, enjoying the hot sun.

14. What is your favorite food and one thing you won’t eat? I love a nicely cooked steak. I hate the taste and smell of vinegar.

15. What advice would you give to a young athlete ready to start his/her time as a Buccaneer? To cherish every moment and practice will pay dividends as you progress.
