One new COVID-19 case reported in Upshur County on Monday, 163 statewide

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 163 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

The number of cases in Upshur County increased by one to 46, according to the DHHR. Four of those are currently active.

One additional death has been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 86-year old female from Kanawha County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m., on September 7, 2020, there have been 461,558 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 11,575 total cases and 247 deaths,” according to a press release.

West Virginia currently has the highest rate of transmission in the country with an R-naught of 1.32. That metric measures has fast the virus is spreading — below 1.0 means the number of cases are contracting, while above 1.0 indicates the virus spreading at an increased rate.

New cases were reported Monday in Berkeley, Boone, Cabell, Calhoun, Doddridge, Fayette, Hancock, Hardy, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Kanawha, Marion, Marshall, Mason, Mercer, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Monroe, Morgan, Ohio, Putnam, Raleigh, Roane, Upshur, Wayne, Wood and Wyoming counties.

About 2,747 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 8,581 people have recovered and 247 have died. The daily percent positive was 3.79%.
