One death, 119 new cases of COVID-19 reported in West Virginia on Sunday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Sunday that 119 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

One additional death has been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 79-year old male from Kanawha County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m., on August 2, 2020, there have been 291,071 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 6,854 total cases and 117 deaths,” according to a press release.

As of August 1, the DHHR now provides a single daily report, which is released at 10 a.m.

New cases were reported Sunday in Berkeley, Boone, Brooke, Cabell, Grant, Greenbrier, Harrison, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lewis, Lincoln, Logan, Marion, Marshall, McDowell, Mercer, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Ohio, Putnam, Raleigh, Taylor Wayne, Wood and Wyoming counties.

About 1,840 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 4,897 people have recovered and 117 have died. The daily percent positive was 3%.
