Number of active COVID-19 cases in Upshur County drops below 100 on Sunday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Sunday that 252 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (1), Barbour (3), Lewis (2) and Webster (2) counties.

A total of 99 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Seven additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 69-year old female from Logan County, a 73-year old male from Cabell County, a 75-year old male from Kanawha County, a 71-year old female from Monongalia County, a 75-year old male from Monongalia County, a 74-year old male from Hancock County, and a 77-year old male from Logan County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of February 21, 2021, there have been 2,115,332 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 129,616 total cases and 2,261 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 8,594 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 118,401 people have recovered and 2,261 have died. The daily percent positive was 3.77%.

A total of 166,686 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
