GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Lindsey Goodman will serve as an Adjunct Lecturer of Flute at Glenville State College (GSC) beginning in Fall 2021.

Principal Flutist of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Goodman earned degrees from Manhattan School of Music, Northwestern University, and Duquesne University. She was solo flutist for the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble for over 18 seasons and has performed in many different notable places around the world. She is an adjunct lecturer of flute at Marietta College and Ashland University as well. Goodman is a founding member of PANdenomium4, a flute quartet, and Chrysalis, a singing flutist and singing pianist duo.

Goodman developed her love for the flute from her father at an early age. “My father played the flute in junior high and high school, so he would play songs at my bedtime as a very young child that he remembered from his youth. They say that ‘the wand chooses the wizard,’ and so the flute chose me!” Goodman explained.

She began her musical journey 31 years ago in her public school music program, but discovered her calling after joining her local youth orchestra. “I immediately fell in love with the sounds of the full orchestral complement and knew that I wanted to become a professional musician.”

With a variety of experiences and accomplishments as a soloist, recording artist, chamber collaborator, orchestral musician, educator, and clinician, Goodman understands that the needs of young musicians and students vary.

“Music is a very individual pursuit, so each student learns differently, sounds different, and has different musical goals,” she said. “I love meeting students where they are and helping them along their unique journeys to become the best musicians that they can be!”

Goodman has prior ties to GSC and is familiar with the atmosphere and the student body. “I’m thrilled to join the faculty of Glenville State College at the invitation of Dr. Jason Barr! Having been a frequent guest artist at GSC and getting to know the music students as they travel to attend performances, I’ve learned what enthusiastic, open-minded students attend Glenville,” Goodman said.

“The Department of Fine Arts is thrilled that Lindsey will be joining us this fall. Not only is she one of the premier flautists in the field today, but Lindsey is also one of the leading experts on flute history and literature. She brings with her a wealth of pedagogical skill and experience and we are excited for her to bring her experiences and enthusiasm to Glenville State,” said Dr. Jason Barr, Chair of the Department of Fine Arts.
