No bids received in Upshur Youth Camp’s timber sale

BUCKHANNON – The Upshur County Commission voted Thursday to try to locate licensed foresters interested in making bids in the Upshur County Youth Camp Timber sale after no bids were received by the deadline.

After no bids were made by the time of the bid opening at the commission’s June 6 meeting, the Upshur County Youth Board made an unofficial recommendation to the county commission, which was conveyed by Upshur County Administrator Carrie Wallace.

“The Upshur County Youth Camp Board … would unofficially like to get a list of licensed foresters in Upshur County and the surrounding counties from the Department of Forestry and send each one of those individuals a copy of the edited RFP (Request for Proposals), which you will approve next Thursday and the bid packet,” Wallace said.

She said another bid opening might take about a month.

“It will be about another month, and we can get open bids again because you are required to run a Class II legal ad, which will run once a week for two consecutive weeks in the The Record Delta, and you have to wait 14 days from the last advertisement to open,” Wallace said. “That would hopefully allow you to solicit more interest.”

Wallace said the board will not be forced to accept any bids received if they are unacceptable and could then wait for fall or winter for another bid opening.
