No animals injured in accidental fire at WVU Farm that causes $1M in damages

A fire occurred on December 13, 2024, at 12:50 PM at the WVU J.W. Ruby Research Farm near Reedsville, West Virginia, in Preston County.

The fire is believed to have originated in a piece of equipment that was parked in one of the exterior stalls of the horse barn. The fire then spread to the barn, causing an estimated $1,000,000 in damages.

This fire has been ruled accidental by State Fire Marshal investigators. No livestock or persons were injured as a result of the fire.
