New program encourages students to take an interest in reading

TENNERTON – We all know how important great reading skill are to insure the success of all students and so this year, Buckhannon-Upshur High School Librarian Angie Westfall created a program to help make sure students are reading for both learning and pleasure.

The new initiative also has some help from local businesses, Buckhannon McDonalds and Buckhannon Pizza Hut, who provide food coupons as incentives for the top readers each quarter. She said students come to her when choosing a book and they chit chat about the books read to make sure students understand what they are reading.

Students who ranked in the top ten for this second quarter include Austin Stout, Chris Arbogast, Jocelynn Bevans, Alisha Tenney, Ethan Linger, Blaze Rice, Zelphia Johnson, Andrew Long, Makayla Robinson and Rebel Bowman.
