New COVID-19 case reported in Upshur County on Friday morning was due to data entry error

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 145 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 5 p.m., on July 24, 2020, there have been 253,040 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 5,695 total cases and 103 deaths,” according to a press release.

A new Upshur County case that was included in the DHHR’s Friday morning update was later removed. Upshur-Buckhannon Health Department nurse director Sue McKisic told My Buckhannon that case was initially added due to a data entry error.

The county remains at 33 confirmed and two probable cases.

According to McKisic, one Upshur County case is still hospitalized in the ICU. She said the county has received 798 results from the free testing event held two weeks ago, and all were negative. The county is still waiting on 69 results that are pending, she added.

New cases were reported Friday in Barbour, Berkeley, Boone, Braxton, Brooke, Cabell, Fayette, Gilmer, Hampshire, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Kanawha, Logan, Marion, Marshall, Mason, McDowell, Mercer, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Ohio, Pendleton, Pleasants, Preston, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Summers, Taylor, Tucker, Tyler, Wayne and Wood counties.

About 1,579 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 4,013 people have recovered and 103 have died. The daily percent positive was 3.41%.
