Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital receives prestigious Healthy West Virginia Award

Vandalia Health’s Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital has been honored with the Healthy West Virginia Award, recognizing the hospital’s outstanding commitment to promoting health and wellness throughout the region. The award, presented as part of the statewide initiative to encourage healthier lifestyles, highlights Mon Health’s successful efforts in fostering physical activity and wellness programming through community partnerships.

The award specifically acknowledges Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital’s achievements in the “play” category, which celebrates organizations that excel in creating opportunities for people to be active.

The hospital highlights its ongoing dedication to wellness through various events and programs, such as the adult fitness program that provides residents with low-cost access to exercise regimens, making fitness more accessible to the broader community. Additionally, Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital hosted a series of walk/run events to encourage a physically active lifestyle, with a tradition dating back to the launch of its 5K race in 2008. Since then, the hospital has expanded its efforts by organizing multiple annual events, including:

  • Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving
  • A summer walk/run event in partnership with the City of Weston
  • A 5K held with the 4H program during the Irish Spring Festival
  • Three other 5Ks on the hospital campus throughout the year

“Our goal at Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital has always been to create meaningful opportunities for our community to embrace healthier, more active lifestyles,” said Julia Spelsberg, Communications and Community Outreach Coordinator at Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital. “Receiving the Healthy West Virginia Award is a testament to the hard work of our team and our partnerships with local organizations. We’re proud to support initiatives that inspire individuals of all ages to get moving and live healthier lives.”

“We are honored to receive the Healthy West Virginia Award,” said David Goldberg. “It reflects our mission to care for our community and to encourage healthier living through accessible programs and events. We are proud of the partnerships we’ve built and look forward to continuing our work to create a healthier community.”

The Healthy West Virginia Award recognizes excellence in promoting health across three key areas: live, learn, and play. Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital’s contributions to physical activity programming, community engagement, and health advocacy have cemented its role as a player in improving the overall health of residents in the region.
