MEC announces women’s basketball tournament seedings and pairings

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The seedings and pairings for the 2022 Mountain East Conference Tournament presented by The Health Plan have been finalized after the conclusion of Saturday’s action. 

The top 10 teams qualify for the tournament at WesBanco Arena, with the top six seeds earning byes

Glenville State, the No. 1 team in the country, put the finishing touches on an undefeated regular season with a win over Concord and is the tournament’s top seed. The Pioneers come into the tournament with a record of 27-0 overall were 22-0 in conference play.

Charleston, last year’s tournament champions, is the No. 2 seed, while West Liberty is the No. 3 seed. Concord emerged as the No. 4 seed after a four-way tiebreaker, followed by Notre Dame, Fairmont State and West Virginia State. Alderson Broaddus is the No. 8 seed, Wheeling is No. 9, and Davis & Elkins secured the final spot in the tournament as the No. 10 seed.

WVSU will open play against Davis & Elkins on Wednesday at noon. Eighth-seeded Alderson Broaddus will face Wheeling at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
