McDaniels scores 25 as JV Bucs down Preston, 56-36

TENNERTON – Brody McDaniels scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Buccaneers to a convincing 56-36 victory over the visiting Preston Knights Friday evening.

McDaniels put in five three-pointers and was a perfect four-for-four at the line for his 25 points.

The Bucs made 10 three-pointers overall in the game.

The Bucs took a 12-5 lead after one quarter behind McDaniels and Jacob Frye’s five points and Damion White’s two points.

B-U doubled up Preston in the second quarter by a 14-7 margin with White scoring five points, McDaniels four, Colton Warner three and Frye two.

That gave the Bucs a 26-12 lead at the half.

The B-U offense was rolling in the third quarter outscoring Preston by a 21-13 margin with McDaniels scoring 14 points, Frye three, and Seth Allen and White two each.

Buckhannon-Upshur led going into the final eight minutes with a 47-25 advantage.

The Bucs dropped the final quarter with the game well in hand by an 11-9 count with White scoring three, Frye, McDaniels and Kaleb Mabry two each.

Behind McDaniels in the scoring column for the Bucs were White and Frye with 12 points each.

Coltin Myers led Preston with eight points.

The win evened the Bucs at 1-1 on the season entering Monday’s road contest at Lewis County.

That contest will begin at 5:45 p.m.
