Manchin Capito announce $968,987 for domestic violence prevention in West Virginia

Washington, DC – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $968,987 from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) for three locations in West Virginia. This funding will support prevention programs that combat rural sexual assault, domestic violence, and dating violence and provide comprehensive services to victims of sexual assault.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the already unacceptable rates of domestic violence across the nation and in West Virginia. This funding will support prevention programs across West Virginia that provide assistance for victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and dating violence and combat this issue head on. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for funding to support programs that provide West Virginians with the support and care they deserve,” said Senator Manchin.

“Programs like these provide comprehensive services to the people of our state who need it most, especially as the COVID-19 pandemic increases the number of domestic violence victims,” said Senator Capito. “This support is critical for West Virginia and will direct intervention and related assistance to victims of sexual assault, regardless of age or circumstance. I will continue to advocate and deliver the support we need in West Virginia to protect one another and keep our people safe.”

·        Logan County Commission – $481,862

·        West Virginia Division of Administrative Services, Justice and Community Services – $395,851
