Man arrested after allegedly attempting to flee from Upshur County deputies on an ATV

BUCKHANNON — Upshur County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man who allegedly tried to flee on an ATV last week, according to a press release.

“On December 21, 2023, deputies of the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic
stop on a red ATV on the Phillips Dairy Road in Buckhannon,” the release states. “The deputies knew the driver of the ATV to be Jacob I. Reed, a wanted person out of the Circuit Court of Barbour County, W.Va.”

When officers tried to stop Reed, he allegedly attempted to flee.

“As deputies attempted to stop the ATV, it attempted to swerve around the deputy in front of him
and flee from law enforcement,” according to the release. “Deputies were able to box in Reed and take him into custody.”

Police charged Reed with both fleeing and drug offenses.

“Deputies conducted a further investigation and determined that Reed was driving under the
influence of a controlled substance and possessed both methamphetamine and suboxone,” the release states. “Reed is currently being held at Tygart Valley Regional Jail on felony circuit court capias and has also been charged with fleeing in a vehicle, DUI drug, and possession of methamphetamine and suboxone.”
