Little General to open Buckhannon location on Wednesday

BUCKHANNON – A new Little General Store plans to officially open its doors in Buckhannon on Wednesday, Feb. 22.

Chris Rose, director of operations for Little General Stores, said the convenience store chain’s Buckhannon location on the Old Weston Road will officially open Wednesday and stay open 24/7.

“It’s going to be Wednesday,” Rose said. “We are going to have vendors setting up in there to get the store finished up on Tuesday, so there’s a chance the store will be open Tuesday evening, but our grand opening of sorts will be on Wednesday. We’re finally getting the doors open. It’s been a long and drawn-out process — we had a bunch of hiccups — and we’re just happy to be able to get the doors open to the community up there.”

Rose said Little General is making its way across West Virginia and Buckhannon was a good fit.

“We’ve been growing in the central and northern part of the state for some time now, and we had an opportunity to grow in Buckhannon and thought it was a good fit,” Rose said. “We were able to add video lottery gaming at that location, so that was another attraction for us.”

Little General convenience stores have been operating in West Virginia for decades.

“We are a convenience store chain that’s been around since 1976, ” Rose said. “Our current owners have owned it since 1999, and we’ve been around pretty much the whole state. We’ll have snacks and beverages at this location, and we’ll have beer and wine, so it’s a little bit of a one-stop shop for people in that area.”

The Little General Store is also still looking for employees in the Buckhannon area.

“We’re looking for front clerks, and then honestly, if you’re interested in management, please put in an application,” Rose said. “If Buckhannon is not a good fit, we have a store near you where you’ll be able to grow into a management position pretty quickly.”

The Little General in Buckhannon is located at 9 Old Weston Road, near the entrance to St. Joseph’s Hospital.
