BUCKHANNON – You can lend a helping hand to the Upshur County Family Resource Network while also signing up to score a one-of-a-kind piece of handmade wooden furniture.

The Upshur FRN, which connects kids, families, parents, and guardians to a whole host of invaluable resources in the Buckhannon-Upshur community, is hosting one of the first fundraisers in years – a handmade furniture raffle.

Money from raffle ticket sales will be utilized to fund technology upgrades, purchase office supplies and other needed items, according to Upshur FRN executive director Lori Ulderich Harvey.

“We are a 501 (c)3 who only funds are grants and the generosity of others,” Harvey said.

Up for grabs are three pieces of handmade furniture, including a white ash breakfast set, white ash bench and sassafras bench. The first name drawn will pick the first piece of furniture and so on.

The FRN, which is located at 79 E. Main St., links children and families to a variety of programs, including Healthy Grandfamilies, child abuse prevention programs and more. The organization additionally plays a key role in other activities that support healthy youth and family interaction, including National Night Out and the Children’s Festival.

Three winners will be selected, and anyone – including people who live outside Upshur County – may purchase a ticket; the only stipulation is that they must have a designated individual to pick up the items.

“The wood is local and made by a local artisan all by hand from falling trees to finished product,” Harvey said.

Tickets cost $5 each or $20 for five and are being sold throughout the month of October due to the spike in COVID-19. Tickets may be purchased at Lavish Salon, which is located across from Dairy Queen on Main Street or from Upshur FRN board or community members. Three winners will be selected.

Please email Lori at upshurfrn@yahoo.com or call 304-472-1051 for more information. Payments may also be made through PayPal using the address BUFRN@gmail.com.
