Lady Bucs wrap up tennis season at regionals

MOUNDSVILLE– The Buckhannon-Upshur girls’ tennis team failed to win a match at the Region I Tournament last Thursday at John Marshall High School, but that didn’t diminish the enthusiasm that head coach Jason Rock has for his young team.

“There were some positives and things to look forward to in the future,” said Rock. “I think our girls played pretty well and are still improving. Now, that some of the upperclassmen have played two years, they know the level they need to be at and I think they are hungry to keep playing and get better. I think the freshmen girls are excited about working in the offseason to become better too.”

Madelyn Frye had the most competitive match as she fell at No. 3 singles by an 8-4 score to Morgantown’s Grace Forman.

“I think the high for me on the girls’ side was Madelyn’s play, especially in singles,” stated Rock. “She played some of the best tennis I’ve seen her play all year and controlled her emotions and just kept fighting.”

The regional tournament wrapped up the 2022 season for the Lady Bucs.
