Lady Bucs tumble to Class AAA No. 5 Philip Barbour, 59-40

Alyssa Abel (22) had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Bucs against Philip Barbour Tuesday night (Bobbie Hatcher/My Buckhannon).

TENNERTON – Buckhannon-Upshur’s Casadie Lahman had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds in their 59-40 loss to the Class AAA No. 5 Philip Barbour Colts in their Big 10 Conference battle Tuesday night.

Lahman also added four assists and three steals in the loss.

It was the same story for the Lady Bucs in the setback to the fifth-ranked Colts, a slow start, turnovers, and a poor shooting night.

B-U shot the ball at just a 32.7 clip (16-for-49), committed 29 turnovers, and trailed 9-0 four minutes into the game.

Harley Dean put the Lady Bucs on the board with a short jumper at the four-minute mark of the first quarter.

Down 14-2, the Lady Bucs did scrap back at the end of the first quarter as they finished the quarter on a 7-0 run behind a lay-up from Dean, a three-pointer from Hodge’Nay Henderson and a nine-footer from Alyssa Abel making it a 14-9 game.

Lahman pushed the run out to 12-0 starting the second quarter with a trey and a lay-up tying the game at 14-14.

Philip Barbour answered with a 7-0 run of their own for a 21-14 lead and the Lady Bucs would never be as close the rest of the game.

A lay-up by Gabby Parke kept the Lady Bucs down by seven, at 25-18, with 3:05 remaining in the half, but the Colts scored eight unanswered points to wrap up the half and take a 33-18 advantage at the intermission.

Philip Barbour led 44-23 with two minutes left in the third quarter before Parke turned in an old-fashioned three-point play, and after a Philip Barbour bucket, Parke launched in a three-pointer making it a 46-29 contest.

The Lady Bucs went into the final quarter down 50-30.

A lay-up by Lahman brough the Lady Bucs to within 15, at 54-39, with 4:56 left in the game, but the Lady Bucs could never get any closer.

The Lady Colts, who improved to 12-2 overall and 8-0 in the Big 10, was led by Rylee Bodkins with 15 points.

Parke paced the B-U offense with 12 points.

The loss dropped the Lady Bucs to 2-11 overall and 1-7 in the Big 10 Conference.

They will be back in action Thursday hosting Bridgeport at 7:30 p.m.
